Our History

The Indian mission was the dream and desire of mother Alba Pescatori, who was then the Superior General of the Congregation. The dream was happily realized by her staunch faith in God and preserving prayer and sacrifice. A group of 4 Venerini Sisters led by Sr.Lea Altigieri landed in India and they were accommodated by the Sisters of Charity in Calicut. With the help of late Bishop Rt.Rev. Aldo Maria Patroni and Rev.Fr.Joseph Vergotini S.J, the sisters could find a small plot with a house which belonged to late.Mr.John Valander. On 12 October 1974 the sisters took possession of the house. Knowing the need of the people they decided to open a school. The first school in India was opened on 1st June 1975 with students Yadev and Yswanth.Rev. Sr. Lourdes Pereira was appointed as the first Head Mistress who led the school in its beginning with indomitable strength of will and spirit of dedication.

On receiving the mandate to head the Venerini Institution in India, Rev.Mother Piera Silvestrini left her native country and landed in Cheruvannur on 26 September 1975.She was at the helm of Venerini as manager and Provincial Superior. The institute in India owes everything to Mothers nobility, spiritually and magnanimity. The first teacher employed was Mrs.Fathima Mehervali who was an integral part of the school community.

We are indebited to Sri.Radhakrishna Menon who made available 3 acres of land at considerable rate. The foundation stone for the new school building in Karinkallai was laid on 31 January 1981 by Rt.Rev. Aldo maria Patroni S.J., the then Bishop of Calicut. The ground floor with 1 classrooms was completed in the same year and it was blessed by Rt.Rev.Dr.Bishop Maxwell Noronha, Bishop of Calicut on 31 December 1981.The school at cheruvannur was shifted to the new place on 28 March 1982.

The U.P Section of the school was recognized by the State Government in the academic year 1984-85 after a long and tedious work. As the school was growing year by year a big blow hit the growth of the school. Tha High School classes were discontinued by a stay order from the Government in 1987.Once again facing all the obstacles the High School section got recognition in 1991.Sr.Lourdes Periera left for Africe in 1991 to serve the people in Africa. The management appointed Mrs.Nambiar in her place. After 2 years she left the school and Mrs.Shanta Pavangatt was appointed as Head Mistress. Bothof them were active and committed to their duty. When Mrs.Shanta pavangatt left the school,Mrs.Mariam G.Thariyan was appointed in her place.

The first batch of S.S.L.C appeared in the final exams in 1994 and obtained an outstanding result.Sri. P.V Swamy Memorial trofy for the Best school was awarded to our school. Till date the school kept cent percentage result in all the examinations.The 14th rank was brought to the school by Rahana Dhavan in 1997.In 1998 Vazna Nalakth secured the 8th rank and Shahina Hassan secured the 15th rank in 1999.The school made its name in curricular and co-curricular activities.Besides the many trophies won Kumari Nimisha of Standard X was the ‘Kala Thilakam’ in the District youth festival 1998.

The foundation stone for the Nursery School cum Auditorium was laid by the Honorable Minister foe Education,Shri.P.J.Joseph and blessed by Rt.Rev.Dr.Maxwell Noronha,Bishop of calicut on 14th October 1997.

The year 2002 is another landmark in the history of Venerini School.From That year onwards our school became a fulfledged Higher Secondary School.

It is our bounden duty to thank our present Superior General Mother Maria Theresa Crescini, Ex-Superior Generals Mother Marcella Lorenzetti,Mother Maria Marscilongo and Mother Angela Silvestrini.

Many our Mother Foundress,St.ROSA VENERINI be our guiding star to SET US FREE from all that is evil to all that is good,beautiful and noble and towards the true path of righteousness and holiness.
